DESCRIPTION:MALMAISON STUDIOS - THEN AND NOW In 2020\, a group of artists rented the first floor of a building on Calea Plevnei in Bucharest. A year later\, the community expanded by occupying the second floor. Since then\, Malmaison Studios has gone through periods of growth\, consolidation\, and contraction\, shaped by the increasing pressure of rising rental costs. Starting from this history\, the presentation explores how a self-organized artistic community develops collective forms of organization and creates a context that influences the artistic practices of its members. Talk in Romanian Language. Free admission. MALMAISON STUDIOS Originally built as a military barracks\, the Malmaison Building has significant historical importance and is 182 years old. Over the course of its history\, it has housed a Military Officers’ School\, a military court\, a prison during the Antonescu regime\, and\, in the early years of the communist regime\, a Securitate investigation and detention centre. The building became part of the IPROCHIM industrial engineering institute’s property in 1977 and is still owned by IPROCHIM today. Today\, Malmaison Studios occupy approximately 2\,500 square metres of the building\, bringing together a vibrant community of artists and cultural practitioners. The studios seek to reconnect the building with the living cultural fabric of the city\, opening a new chapter in its long and complex history.\n\nhttps://hoodapp.ro/post/41574
