DESCRIPTION:•• DANCE HISTORY AND CLASS CONCEPT •• START YOUR JAZZ JOURNEY by learning the basics\, to get a feel of the groove of lindy hop. Joy guaranteed. Lindy hop is an African-American dance and since its birth in Harlem\, NY\, in the 20s and until today\, it’s been explored and carried further by decades of social dance and by the in-depth research of passionate dancers and thinkers all around the world. As part of the swing dance family\, lindy hop is danced on jazz music and\, just like jazz\, it speaks about exercising personal freedom within a structured vocabulary and bringing individual nuances to the surface while honoring its historical legacy. Despite challenging times of blatant social inequality and racial stereotypes\, Lindy Hop alchemized into a dance language speaking of joy\, liberation\, exuberance\, playfulness and connection. We will periodically bring elements of this historical context into conversation\, during classes\, training sessions and dedicated events. •• APPROACH •• This is a class for people with no experience in lindy hop\, approaching the introduction to this dance vocabulary as syncronized with developing body awareness. •• PRACTICAL INFO •• Time: Thursdays\, 19:00 - 20:00 Venue: Intrarea Victor Eftimiu nr. 2 (next to Cișmigiu Park) Donations: Sliding scale donation system as described in the registration form * Discount for students: 15% The course starts in September. Classes take place weekly and continue every month\, organically shifting from introductory notions towards a more complex and technical approach of the vocabulary and philosophy of the dance. •• ABOUT US •• Jazz from a contemporary perspective – we bring methodologies from other art fields to weave new ways of exploring the fantastic universe of jazz dance and music. We intertwine the study of historical foundations of swing dancing with instruments for developing body awareness and individual expression\, as inspired by other performance and contemporary dance practices. When facilitating contexts for learning\, we aspire to a sense of conviviality as practice for life and dance. We encourage openness\, in depth curiosity and search for the poetry (within and around). With a main interest in the vernacular roots of the dance\, our main focus is on musicality and improvisation techniques by preparing challenging practices and ways of encounter through dance\, combining vocabularies of solo jazz\, lindy hop and blues.\n\nhttps://hoodapp.ro/post/50575
